Only one game to preview this weekend but what a game it is. As the third team enter the last 4 matches of a season
that has seen them remain unbeaten in the League since September and which has taken them to second in the League, they have
two matches left against Minor Cup Finalists, C & G, who just happen to be in third place. In 11 days time, their
season will be over and, hopefully, we will know their destiny but, until then, it is, more or less, in their own hands, starting
with Saturday's home match against the early season pacesetters
C & G blazed a glorious trail back in the autumn when, following their formation last Spring, they made a barnstorming
entrance to the League by winning each of their first 6 games, during the month of September, scoring 50 goals in the process.
Since then, however, they have found the going a bit tougher and have not, to date, excelled against the sides that have turned
out to be the Division's leading lights. They also played in the Minor Cup Semi Final on Wednesday, a game that went
into extra time and which must have drained them both physically and emotionally as they eventually defeated Gaffers Reserves
3-2 after 120 minutes.
Nevertheless, they are in third place and did enough on Wednesday night to leave the half of the Third team management
that was on the sidelines watching, quietly impressed. This will be a tough game for the third team then, which will
be swiftly followed by the return at The Burrows next Thursday, but fortunately it would seem that they will be able to field
a side that will be confident of doing the job. Martin Chandler and Mike Thompson both return to bolster the side that
did so well to topple long term League Leaders, FC Electrics Reserves, from the summit last weekend and John Marchant, who
has excelled for the thirds this season and who was last weekend's Man of the Match by a country mile, remains available to
hopefully provide the cutting edge up front, even if he is absolutely hopeless at downing MOM pints.
The third team have received good support on the touchlines this season but, on Saturday, with the club's other two sides
inactive, it would be nice to think that they would benefit from the sort of backing that they were afforded at their own,
recent, Minor Charity Cup Semi Final. They are a good side, play some good football and they will be searching for the
final push that might gain them promotion and this will all seem a little more achieveable if they know that they have the
backing of the rest of the club, on the sidelines, cheering them on.
Kick off on Saturday is 3.00 pm
