1st Up 3rd Choice for the 3rd Team

You may not have been aware but the club has recently acquired a brand new third choice kit.  Yes, that is right - THIRD CHOICE, for all those difficult days when the opposition just insist on playing in yellow and blue stripes, or hoops, or halves, or quarters, or yellow on the front and blue on the black and - well, you get the drift.

Now, opinion on this matter was divided, as they say.  Apart from Alfers, everyone who was consulted prior to purchase thought that the new kit, which is catalogued as "Graphite" by the suppliers, was great.  And Alfers didn't.  The most positive uttering that emanated from the club vice-chairman, third team joint manager and ace goal-getter (2 goals in two games as at 4th March!!!) was that "it was awful".   But, after the club had taken delivery of the new kit in late January, the first opportunity to use it presented itself when the third team played Falcons at the beginning of March and here they are, resplendent in Graphite, just itching to beat someone 4-2 to go 15 matches unbeaten

Back Row:  S. Pucello, C Clarke, B Hall, P Marshall, J Carpenter, N Darke, C Crichton
Front Row: J Marchant, K Bermingham, M Harvey, B Watts, M Elliot, R Gill

All of which left Mr Elliot, club stalwart that he is, with a bit of a dilemma.  Did he make a stand, defend his opinion as a point of principle and refuse to don the "awful" kit that the club had just obtained contrary to his specific counsel or did he swallow his pride and just play anyway.  Well, naturally, as anyone who knows Alfers would have expected, it was the latter and he was out there with the "graphite gods" the same as normal.  How did he manage to salve his conscience?  Well, he just reminded himself of the occasion, many years ago, when Manchester United lost 6-2 to Southampton and Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that the magnitude of the defeat was due to the grey kit his side was wearing, because they couldn't see each other.  So, assuming no one would be able to see him, he felt quite safe.  Which means that you won't be able to see him in the picture below, either
