Rumours were circulating, after
the first team match near Coleford at the beginning of February, that an attempt had been made to lure 1st team
Manager Mark Jacobsen away from Star FC.
It is believed that Jacobsen,
40 and the most successful manager in Star’s history, was offered a package that included a free pint at the bar immediately
after the game, the opportunity to travel into the Forest every other weekend
and his own flock of sheep. It is also believed that he had refused to rule out
a move to West Gloucestershire, although it is thought that he was only prepared to accommodate the idea firstly whilst he
was still consuming his free pint and, secondly, so long as it was understood that any deal agreed would be finalised on the
same day that hell froze over.
Understandably, the Star Board
moved quickly to dispel any fears that they would be losing their manager and immediately put forward a counter proposal designed
to keep Mr Jacobsen, 40, at the club. It is believed that, crucially, this included
the chance to buy his own pint at The Farmers Arms every other weekend, the opportunity not to have to travel to the Forest on a regular basis and the promise that
he would never be required to tend his own flock of sheep. Insiders at the club
have suggested that, following significant deliberation, it was the prospect of continuing to live sheep-free that clinched
the deal.
