As you can tell from the scoreline, this match and, in particular, the result was a disaster and is quite difficult to comment on! The Reserve Team arrived at Elmbridge with a very depleted squad (if we can call it that....), actually we had only 11 fit players to start the game due to late drop-outs and very poor, club-wide, availability. Shaun Piper, who is recovering from a broken ankle, even had to run the line for us!!!

The home side started very well and caused numerous problems for the whole back line, which led to four first half goals. Matt Harvey unfortunately pulled a leg muscle late on in the half but, notably, made a fantastic goal-line clearance to stop further embarrassment. With no substitutes available, Matt decided to continue on throughout the game and when Neil Bond (groin) & Adam Walker (knee) were limping early in the second half, thoughts turned to waving a white flag before it got to a cricket score.

The second half started much like the first with Finlay registering two more early goals. However, there was no more further scoring in the last 38 minutes, due to number of reasons:

1) Finlay started taking pity on the team..........;

2) Change of formation to 3-6-1 bulked the midfield to eventually win some ball.......;

3) Sam Bunker’s awesome MOM display as fill-in centre back due to the injuries to 3 of our defenders..........;

4) Finlay losing all their footballs over the fences which must have saved at least 10 minutes!

However, the whole club, as well as the manager, can take pride in all the players (and Shaun) who were there at Windfall Way on Saturday, as there was no lack of commitment, passion and endurance shown by all.

Hopefully, the team will be able to start the league properly on Tuesday night!
